This innovative initiative from the Community Service Team of the Department of Economics and Development Studies, Tanjungpura University, aims to improve the education of migrant children in border areas through interactive and enjoyable learning.

In a joint effort to overcome the educational challenges faced by Indonesian migrant children in border areas, the “Joyful Learning” program implemented by Tanjungpura University has succeeded in creating an inclusive and enjoyable learning environment.
The program, which is implemented at the Community Learning Center (CLC), targets migrant workers’ children, who often face barriers in accessing formal education due to their parents’ immigration status. These children depend on the CLC, whose facilities and teaching methods are still limited.
The “Joyful Learning” initiative, held on June 27, 2025, aims to boost the learning motivation of migrant children by employing a fun and interactive learning approach. Through educational games, art, music, and mini-projects, this program introduces learning methods that are not only enjoyable but also have a positive impact on material comprehension. Some of the activities carried out include teaching mathematics and science through games, as well as the use of simple teaching aids aimed at facilitating understanding.
The team from Tanjungpura University also played an active role in providing fun learning materials. They brought various innovative techniques, such as the use of local teaching aids and simple media, to ensure that children could learn in an interesting and enjoyable way. Activities involving interactive games and mini-projects aim to make the learning process more lively and accessible to participants.
Keynote speakers at the event, including Dr. Ida Juliana from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, emphasized the importance of programs like this to address the educational challenges faced by migrant children. They also suggested that continuous efforts be made to improve CLC facilities and ensure the implementation of more effective learning methods in the future.
Despite challenges such as limited classroom space and language differences, the event was a success. Participants not only gained new knowledge, but also reported that they became more enthusiastic about learning. One participant said, “The games helped me understand math better, and now I enjoy going to school.”
The success of this initiative proves that community-based education programs and the “Joyful Learning” approach can be effective models for education in limited areas. Going forward, the program team plans to improve CLC facilities and expand the positive impact of this innovative learning model so that more migrant children can get the education they need.
